DULi’s story began with a Dutch founder’s curiosity about Sichuan food. After coming to China, Thijs developed a fondness for mapo tofu. That memory of flavour eventually found its way into the DULi kitchen.
DULi opened in Shanghai in August 2020. “Du” points to Chengdu, while “Li” symbolises grains: a meeting of Sichuan flavour and plant-based possibilities.
Mapo tofu brings bold spice; chickpea hummus brings a smooth, mellow texture. Pine nuts, cherry tomatoes and house-made pita complete a new way to enjoy a familiar dish.
That meeting of flavours continues to guide DULi: starting with something familiar, and welcoming another perspective to the table.
